Walter Nicoletti, the italian Oscar® qualified director, actor and producer born in Matera is officially a member of the Independent Spirit Awards of Los Angeles.
The Independent Spirit Awards are U.S. film awards given annually since 1986 by the Film Independent organization to support and promote independent cinema. Every year the U.S. organization honors the best talent in the world of film and television. In addition to traditional categories such as best film and best director, the Spirit Awards include a number of unique awards. Beginning in 2021, the event introduced new categories honoring the best television stories and performances, and this year debuts two categories for best performances.

The 2023 Independent Spirit Awards were dominated by the Daniels’ “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” which led all films this year with eight nominations and a won a total of seven prizes, including best feature. This year’s Spirit Award nominees were highlighted by gender neutral categories, meaning Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh faced off against Paul Mescal in the lead performance race. “Women Talking” was the recipient of this year’s Robert Altman award, which is given to one film’s director, casting director and ensemble cast.

“It is a great privilege to be a member of the Spirit Awards, among the most prestigious Hollywood organizations in the world – Nicoletti said – considering that we will have the opportunity to be able to export our films that we produce in Matera and Basilicata, where our production company is based, and thus submit them to the attention of the studios in Los Angeles, in addition to the hope of being able to establish new great collaborations. Yesterday the 2023 awards ceremony was great and the global event confirmed the last big awards show before the Oscars to celebrate independence and inclusivity in TV and movies”.
