David Cinnella and Walter Nicoletti’s short film Bloodline will compete for the Academy Award® for Best Live Action Short Film at the 96th Academy Awards®.
The short film produced by Voce Spettacolo, in collaboration with the Basilicata Region and the Municipality of Bernalda, won Francis Ford Coppola’s Italian contest and will now represent Italy after passing the qualifying program in Los Angeles.

This prestigious award underscores the extraordinary talent of the filmmakers and the outstanding work behind the making of this extraordinary film project.
The film, which screened for seven consecutive days at the Lumiere Cinema in Beverly Hills in June, caught the attention of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences thanks to its compelling narrative, masterful direction by talented Matera filmmakers and superlative performances by the cast consisting of Cosimo Frascella, Gabriele Grano, Walter Nicoletti, Brunella Lamacchia, Donato Cirella, Franco Piccinni and Nestor Romero. The sound engineer is Davide Sergio, stage photographer Alejandro Romero, set and costume designer Caterina Tristano, and the music was composed by Walter Nicoletti.
Now the film is up for one of the most prestigious awards in the film world. It will be voted on by members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences from Dec. 14-18. This award is the result of the hard work, creativity and commitment of an outstanding team that worked tirelessly to bring to light a unique and engaging story. The success of “Bloodline” once again demonstrates the exceptional talent present in the Italian film industry and the ability to create works that leave a lasting impression.

“I am excited and proud to share with you some amazing news that has just arrived from Los Angeles,” says David Cinnella, “Our new short film “Bloodline” is officially in the running for the 2024 Oscars. It is an incredible honor to be in the running for a second time for one of the most prestigious awards in the film world, and this opportunity is the result of the hard work, dedication and passion of an extraordinary team that has worked tirelessly to bring this story to light. “Bloodline is more than just a short film, it is an emotional journey,” says Walter Nicoletti, “that explores emotional depths, complex relationships and the indelible power of family ties. Every single member of the cast and crew contributed significantly to making this project unique and unforgettable. We also qualified four other short films for the Oscars, my production and distribution company Voce Spettacolo being the only authorized in Italy for qualifying for the Academy Awards. For this edition, Italy will finally be in the spotlight with extraordinary films.”
