The Short Films

HATCH
Directed by Alireza Kazemipour and Panta Mosleh and produced by Sina Nazarian, Alireza Kazemipour and Panta Mosleh (PK Studio Production) Hatch offers a searing exploration of the refugee experience through the eyes of a child. Funded by the Canada Council for the Arts and the BC Arts Council, the film was carefully developed over two years and shot in Vancouver, BC.
The story follows Naaji, an Afghan refugee boy hiding with his mother in a water tanker while crossing a border. After tragically losing her during the journey, Naaji spends the rest of his life searching for a way to relive his last memory of her. Through its poignant narrative, Hatch sheds light on the silenced trauma of illegal immigration and the suffering of innocent children—voices too rarely heard in today’s media.

BURUL
Directed by Adilet Karzhoev, Burul has already captured the hearts of audiences and juries worldwide, earning victories and official selections at prestigious international film festivals, including Oscar Qualifying festivals. Each recognition reflects the film’s emotional power, cultural significance, and extraordinary storytelling.
At the heart of the story is Burul, a rural high school student who dreams of becoming a wrestler. Denied entry to the boys’ gym and facing her father’s disapproval, she trains alone at home, clinging to her passion. Her resilience is put to the ultimate test when a boy from a neighboring village, after failing to court her, attempts to kidnap her for marriage. Burul is a universal tale of courage, defiance, and the fight for freedom.

YOU ONLY LIVE THREE TIMES
Written and directed by Antonio Andrisani, and produced by Dimensione Cinema by Donato Cosmo and Maria Cappiello, this sharp, ironic, and thought-provoking short blends dark humor with incisive social commentary. Set in Matera, one of Italy’s most treasured film locations—from Pasolini to Mel Gibson to James Bond—the story follows an eccentric Australian director who arrives in the city to shoot the first installment of an unusual new franchise: a spy saga starring “Jesus Bond.”
Shot entirely in Matera and featuring a gifted cast of Lucanian actors, You Only Live Three Times channels the authenticity, creativity, and biting irony of Southern Italy. With Andrisani’s signature satirical touch, the film reimagines cinema’s sacred and profane traditions in a playful and unforgettable way.
