Los Angeles, CA – February 21, 2024 – The screenings of short films distributed by Voce Spettacolo Distribution for the 2025 Oscar qualifications have concluded today in Los Angeles. This achievement highlights the company’s dedication to bringing short films to the highest levels of international recognition, solidifying the distribution company as a leading player in Hollywood and a key partner for filmmakers seeking to enter the Academy Awards race each year.
These films have embarked on the Oscar qualifying journey thanks to Voce Spettacolo’s exclusive distribution service, which includes the organization of strategic screenings in LA, ensuring the best opportunities to make the Academy shortlist.
Here are the competing films:
“In the Shadow of The Cypress“, the award-winning animated short by Hossein Molayemi and Shirin Sohani, tells the story of a former captain suffering from PTSD who lives with his daughter in a house by the sea, leading an isolated and harsh life. Selected at Venice 80 and winner of the Tribeca Film Festival, Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, Animayo, and Marateale this year, the film has also been screened at Annecy and other prestigious festivals. John Musker, the legendary Disney animator (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Moana), called it one of the best animated shorts of the last twenty years for its set design, use of light, screenplay, and story. “Jumpman” by Tom Dey. After its world premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, the U.S. director and producer—known for working with De Niro, Eddie Murphy, Matthew McConaughey, and other celebrities—partners with Voce Spettacolo to bring his new and thrilling documentary short to the Oscars stage. The film tells the story of photographer Co Rentmeester, who in 1984 took the iconic photograph of Michael Jordan for LIFE magazine, which was later copied by Nike to create one of the world’s most famous logos. The documentary also features two talented Italian creatives: Federico Conforti as editor and Maestro Fabrizio Mancinelli as composer. (TRAILER)
“Imprinting” by Andrea Ciavatta. The new short film from the italian director from Rimini has captivated juries at numerous international festivals, winning the Paris Film Awards, London Movie Awards, New York Movie Awards, Florence Film Awards, Milan Gold Awards, and the Hollywood Gold Awards. A personal exploration of memory, identity, and human connection, told through a visually extraordinary narrative. “Reclusive” by David Cinnella and Walter Nicoletti. This film, made in Lucania, tells the powerful and poignant story of Flavio, a hikikomori who emerges from the darkness of his soul into a new life full of color. With a combination of visually captivating storytelling and deep emotional resonance, the short film explores the rising social issue of young people who choose to withdraw from society and isolate themselves from the outside world. The teaser, premiered on the iconic screens of Times Square, received positive acclaim overseas, further proving that cinema remains a powerful medium for addressing social issues. (TRAILER)
